Hezekiah's wicked father, Ahaz, closed the temple doors and set up altars "at every street corner in Jerusalem" (2 Chron. 28:24). When Hezekiah began his reign as king, one of his first activities was to repair the doors and reinstitute proper worship (cf. 2 Chron. 29:3ff.).
